NEW DELHI, India -- Patrick John Tierro of the Philippines ousted Austria's Andreas Fasching, 6-3, 7-6, but lost his second round match to another Austrian Konstantin Gruber, 4-6, 2-6, in the $25,000 ITF men's Satellite Masters Tuesday here. The 6-foot-1 Tierro finished 14th in the overall standings after accumulating 13.5 circuit points in four ITF Satellite legs.
Virgilio "Beeyong" Sison, Tierro's coach-trainer at the Subic Bay International Tennis Center, said his ward is now the lone Filipino netter to gain an ATP ranking.
"PJ's 13.5 circuit points translates to four ATP points," explained Sison.
The result meant that Tierro is now the country's top Davis Cup player, replacing longtime Filipino No. 1 Johnny Arcilla.
