"PJ needs to play as many matches as he could on the European clay courts for him to develop a solid all-around game,"

- Beeyong Sison

Tennis player Patrick John Tierro, the 19-year-old "giant player" is currently on a European swing, competing in the German national tournaments that started last July and will end this September.

A protégé under Subic Bay Sports Management Inc.'s Beeyong Sison and sportsman Jean Henri Lhuillier, Tierro's potential was first spotted in last year's Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis Circuit. His stellar performance on the court earned him the support of sports patron and tennis enthusiast Lhuillier who offered to fund this three-month European trip.

Out four events Tierro has entered, the pride of the Subic Bay International Tennis Center has reached the semi-finals twice after going through the qualifying rounds.

The tough field is a prize money series event for German and International players. Although the tournaments do not award ITF and ATP points, these were participated in by players with ATP ranking as well as formerly ranked players.

Tierro's performance has impressed as many as four to five leading tennis clubs in Germany who readily offered him a slot in next year's Bundesliga (German Interclub Championships). The club is sponsoring Tierro's travel expenses and is set to provide him with other incentives

Acording Lhuillier, the overseas stint is a great opportunity for the 6-foot-1 Tierro to make his base in Europe and at the same time sustain himself financially while exposing himself to the European brand of tennis. Sison and Lhuillier expect Tierro to make an impact on the ATP tour in two to three years.

"PJ needs to play as many matches as he could on the European clay courts for him to develop a solid all-around game," noted Sison, who lived in Europe for 17 years and is extending his vast network and expertise to talents like Tierro.
