NEW DELHI RP Davis Cupper Patrick John Tierro of Subic Bay finished tied for tenth (10th ) place in the final standings of the just concluded Association of Tennis Professionals/International Tennis Federation Satellite Circuit here.
Tierro whose trip is sponsored by sportsman Jean Henri Lhuillier of Cebuana Lhuillier, made a strong finish in the last two legs including the Masters event despite going down with food-poisoning during the first week. Tierro won 6 ATP points to increase his total to 10 ATP points and move up 244 places from no.1171 to no.927 in the ATP Tour Entry Rankings.
“It was such a strong field, I was lucky to win a few matches. I really felt I improved week by week”, said Tierro who trains with former ATP tour player Beeyong Sison at the Subic Bay International Tennis Center .
Tierro's next event will be two ATP $25,000 Challengers starting April 17 and April 24 respectively in Benagalore , India . After which he will play another ATP/ITF $25,000 Satellite circuit in Indonesia on May 8 th where he will team up with Australian partner Nick Lindahl.
The 6-foot-1 Tierro who won a gold medal as part of the men's team in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games last December has now qualified to the Masters of all three ATP/ITF Satellite events he has joined since 2004.
Tierro is set to play 30 events this year and has just been included by the Philippine Tennis Assocaition to represent the country in the Asian Games this November together with Cecil Mamiit and Erci Taino.
