The International Tennis School (ITS) System is a collection of training units to facilitate the development of tennis players. It embodies a progressive instructional program that recognizes the different phases of an individual's playing experience.
" It takes five years to make
a tennis player
and ten years
to make
a champion "
Bill Tilden

ITS System is complementary to the existing methods of modern teaching prescribing a wide range of technical and tactical creativity. It is aimed to expand awareness and understanding to help speed up a player's development. The system is sure to retain every player's individuality as they perfect their own styles.
ITS System is based on:
- Experience in the fields of international competition;
- Ideas from coaches around the world - past and present;
- Thorough knowledge of physical education;
- Principles of teaching and learning;
- Research in sports science.
INTRODUCTION
In planning the improvement of athletic performance in tennis, it is necessary to take into account that a high level performance can be achieved after five to ten years of systematic training activity. A level of performance can be reached at the age of sixteen years of age and maintained until about thirty-five years old.
The process of development is a complex and dynamic system that must be directed by experienced coaches including sports psychologists, physiologists and physicians. Players are encouraged to participate in the planning so it may help them identify with their performance goals and requirements.
A comprehensive training process requires a suitable environment with a clear understanding from the player's family and school. The demands in planning are increased in a country like the Philippines that have fewer facilities and less favorable weather conditions.
