In planning the improvement of athletic performance in tennis, it is necessary to take into account that a high level performance can be achieved after five to ten years of systematic training activity. A level of performance can be reached at the age of sixteen years of age and maintained until about thirty-five years old.
The process of development is a complex and dynamic system that must be directed by experienced coaches including sports psychologists, physiologists and physicians. Players are encouraged to participate in the planning so it may help them identify with their performance goals and requirements.
A comprehensive training process requires a suitable environment with a clear understanding from the player's family and school. The demands in planning are increased in a country like the Philippines that have fewer facilities and less favorable weather conditions.
